Promised Wife
In Arnhemland, an Aboriginal man of some standing in his clan (i.e. a head hunter or ceremony man) may have several promised wives and some women of importance in the clan, the head mother of all the children or the woman with all the knowledge of the womens' secret business may have several husbands. A man may keep his promised wives or pass them on. A promised wife could be as young as 8 years old, but will remain a virgin until her breasts become full and droop down a little, only then can she lose her virginity or should I say she is ready to have a baby. Paddy said that you can rape on the outside but you cannot put him inside until her milks (breasts), as Paddy puts it, fall down, the milks face down a little.
